Another "library" lost with Michael's passing. Pam and I offer our sincere condolences to his family.
We both attended De la Salle College where our friendship began. Christmas was the time our families got together usually on boxing Day. It truly was "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year" ! Michael and his family introduced me to Algonquin Provincial Park and their cottage on Smoke Lake. Where a city boy learned how to fish and fillet, make blueberry jam (picking our own park blueberries ! }, make toasted "flying saucers" and paddle a canoe, go on long canoe trips, respect and love the beauty of Canada's outdoors. Treasured memories added to my 'library". Thank you Michael and family for the happy times we shared.
Blessings to all!

I worked with Michael for almost 10 years at NSHA IT Stores, he was an amazing gentleman to work with. He always kept my days interesting, full of laughter and songs. We still have copies of his voicemails from when he was on vacation, they always brought joy to so many people. He had a huge heart and was always there for anyone.
He will be greatly missed.

I'm so sad to hear of Michael's passing. I'd really hoped to see him again. He was incredibly kind to me and my family. My favorite memory was of our trip to Cape Breton with my children. We saw moose and whales and had an amazing time. His kindness will never be forgotten.

So sorry to hear of Michael's death. He was very proud of his sons and very passionate about nature. Michael was a good friend to my late husband Colin Stewart and they worked together through the Halifax Field Naturalists and Nature Nova Scotia to leave us all with a better environment.
My condolences to your family.
Betty Hodgson.

My condolences to all Michael's family and friends. This picture of him, looking like Father Christmas, was from a hike between Old Sambro Road and Prospect Road a couple of winters ago. He holds my deepest respect as a naturalist, philosopher and a senior hiker (We hiked around Chignecto Penninsula a few years ago). Michael was one of the few individuals I have met in this life who had set aside any desire to judge others. A rare treasure indeed.
Respectfully,
Rev. Unzan Tesshin James Smith
