Obituary of Winnie Young

Dartmouth. It is with great sadness and heavy hearts, that we announce the passing of Winnifred Ruth Young on August 25, 2021 at the age of 68, with family by her side. Born in Newfoundland, she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Mary (Peiroway) Ward.

Winnie couldn’t wait to retire, since she started working from a very young age.  She put herself through College and loved reading any book she could get her hands on. She loved road trips with her husband, playing cards with the Bullen’s, or just spending quality time with friends and family. She will be dearly missed. 

Winnie was the beloved and cherished wife of 48 years (together for 50) to Michael Young.  She is also survived by her daughter, Brenda Young and her pride and joy grandchild, Jessica Young-Smith; sisters, Madonna (Cliff Muise), NFLD, Debbie (Steven Benoit), NFLD, Tina (Randy Lucas), BC, Darlene (Ronnie Young), NFLD and Vernell (Fabian Lucas), NFLD; brothers, Alfred (Yvonne), NFLD, Leonard (Betty), NFLD and Norman (Carmelita “Carm”), ON; as well as a VERY large circle of family and friends around the world, too many to mention. She was predeceased by sisters, Shirley and Annette “Nettie” Ward; brothers, Leroy, John “Jack” (Patricia) and Russell (Delphine).

Cremation has taken place under the care of Maritime Cremation Centre. Due to Covid restrictions, a private service will take place, by invitation only. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Halifax Hospice (hospicehalifax.ca).
