Sincere condolences to Marie and the White family on Karl's passing. Karl and I crossed paths many times in our Military Medical careers, I served in Shearwater 1967-1970 as the base pharmacist and at the Medical Supply Depot in Debert from 1978-1981. Karl was not only a fellow wine maker (I started in Shearwater in 1968) but also a good story teller. The most memorable tale he told me was that of his father, who as a young boy aspiring to become a pharmacist (which was close to my heart), worked as a delivery boy for the local drug store in Halifax. One of his duties was, on his way to school, to drop into the pharmacy and stoke the furnace so that the building would be toasty warm for the pharmacist when he opened for the day. One day as he did so, he was exiting the shop and there was a loud explosion! His first thought was, did he do something wrong with the furnace? But he soon realized that the entire city was coming down around him ... this was 6Dec1917 and the great Halifax Explosion! RIP Karl. keep them laughing up there. Sincerely LCol (Ret'd) Dave Borthwick CD, BScPharm.

Marie, I am so sorry to read of Karl's passing. Such a nice man, and we always enjoyed talking about bird sightings when we would have a chance meeting.

Dear Marie and family,
We were shocked and saddened to read of Karl's passing. When I think back about Karl, I am reminded of Dad; they were such good friends. You both hold a special spot in my heart, Marie, and although we didn't manage to see much of you guys in more recent years, those wonderful memories will be alive forever. May his memories and love of family sustain you all in the days and weeks ahead.
Love, Shirley & Jim Hall

Dear Marie and family, we remember fondly our Monday lunches at Subway in Digby and we were also fortunate to be on the receiving end of Karl’s wine. A very remarkable man and family. May he rest in peace.

There are so many memories of Dad. He was a man with a strong work ethic and an even stronger love of family. I will miss his quirky sense of humor, his love of a good story, preferably accompanied by a glass of wine (often one of his vintages), a good game of rummy, and just sitting around the table with his family and friends. If only that table could talk! Miss you Dad but know you are in a better place. Love you forever, Anne
