Obituary of Sarah Shirley Durnford

Durnford, Sarah Shirley (Lafosse) - Age 74 of Bedford, passed away on Monday, January 31, 2022 at the QEII in Halifax. Born in Parson’s Harbour, Newfoundland, she was the daughter of the late Annie (Green) Lafosse and Freeman Lafosse.

Shirley is survived by her loving husband, Alex of 55 years; son, Dean (Angie) and their children, Ethan and Noah; daughters, Donna (Scott) and their children, Olivia, Erik and Adele; Deanna (Robert) their daughters, Lexi and Ally; Deborah (Miguel) and their children, Mateo, Lola and Tito. 

Shirley is also survived by 9 siblings, Leah, Joan, Guy, Audrey, Julie, Brenda, Glenn, Darrell and Darlene. 

Shirley "Grandma" loved her 10 grandchildren more than anything else in this world and her love will never been forgotten. No one hugged better than Grandma. 

Shirley had a rewarding career in long term care and cared for the residents with the same love she gives her family and friends.

Shirley and Alex enjoyed 19 years of retirement and had the opportunity to travel and made the most of everyday together. 

Shirley also had many loving lifelong friends, and her home was always a welcoming gathering place with plenty of food and love for everyone. She had a way of making everyone feel special. Shirley and Alex recently moved into a lovely apartment where they met a group of wonderful friends with whom they shared many laughs.

Shirley was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed it and always put others first. She was an amazing woman who was always willing to share her love which is why her loss is felt so deeply by many.
