Obituary of Louis Edward Karol
It is with great sadness that we announce the departure of Louis Edward Karol (nee Louis Edward Carabelnik/Karabelnik), born September 4, 1935, who passed away on October 22, 2023, of cardiac disease. He is survived by his daughter, Bena (Mark Gaudet) and his sister, Ann Karbelnik (the late Gordon "Buddy" Cohen).
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Annette Ruth (Drouin) in 2019; his parents Bessie (Pesa Rochel) Abramski and Yankel Karabelnik; his brother Mike Karbelnick and his late wife, Frances Hellman; his brother Nadie (Nuchum) Karol and his late first wife, Mary Shostak and late second wife, Riva Cannell; and his sister Fay (Fanny) Karbelnik and her late husband Ben Wax.
Louis also leaves behind many beloved nephews and nieces, as well as neighbours and friends.
Louis was born in Montreal, Quebec and was eventually transferred to Moncton, New Brunswick and then Nova Scotia by his employer at the time. Among his varied experiences, he was manager for a chain of hardware stores, drove a bus for airport transfers, started a limousine business, and worked in sales. He and Annette were founding members of the SKAL Club International. Skål is a professional organization of tourism leaders around the world, promoting global tourism and friendship.
He was also a member of the Halifax Board of Trade Transportation Committee from 1968 to 1982.
Louis, Annette and Bena loved to go camping together and they explored many regions of the United States, especially Florida, where they headed with their trailer to avoid the coldest winter months in Nova Scotia. Louis also fancied himself a handyman, as evidenced by several interesting projects he concocted. He adored all the dogs they owned, including many dobermans. As a dog owner, he familiarized himself with the other dog lovers in the neighbourhood and soon Louis was the "go-to" guy to get doggie biscuits.
He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. We will miss his jokes and sense of humour. He left his mark on all of us.
