Obituary of Marcelle Yvette Wilson
Dartmouth NS/Miscou Island NB. We are saddened to announce the passing of Marcelle Wilson (St Pierre), age 100.
Marcelle passed away peacefully at Oakwood Terrace, long term care facility, in Dartmouth NS on February 25th,2024.
Marcelle was born to Alfeda and George St Pierre of Windsor Mills, QC on February 10th, 1924. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Eloi Wilson; her parents and her 16 siblings.
Marcelle married her beloved husband after meeting him in Montreal when he returned from Europe as a soldier during WWII. They then moved to his homestead on Miscou Island in northern NB and she adapted to becoming a fisherman’s wife. No small feat for someone who had been raised on a dairy farm in Quebec.
During her 70 years on Miscou Island, Marcelle learned to speak English; cook fish; farm; raise a family of seven; become the local teacher of 8 grades in a one room schoolhouse while teaching in both official languages.
Marcelle leaves behind a large loving family: Donald; Sheila Polk (Terry); Jean Daigle (Dave); Larry (Calum); Carol Irving; Frank (Kelly); Richard; sisters-in-law, Martha and Edwidge, in addition to numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and special friends.
We wish to sincerely thank the wonderful staff of Oakwood Terrace (Unit A) who lovingly cared for her over the past four plus years. No words could truly express how grateful we are as a family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Maritime Cremation Services in Lower Sackville, NS. A service to honour her memory will be held on Miscou Island at a later date.
Donations can be made to the recreation department of Oakwood Terrace, 10 Mt Hope Ave, Dartmouth NS, B2Y 4K1 or a charity of your choice.
