I had the pleasure of serving with Chuck in Shearwater in the Mid Seventies, he was a prankster but also has a serious side when applying his culinary skills. I had only seen Chuck one other time after Shearwater and that was a brief chat and a quick recap of past/current sit-reps. The Military has a way of either keeping you close or distant and whereas I chose the Army way of life, it was the latter for Chuck and I. Please accept my sincere condolences, Chuck and I got along well and one day "hopefully", we'll meet again.

I'm so sorry to hear of Chuck's passing. I was also a fellow crew member of Chucks on HMCS Gatineau where he was the "Chief Cook". I remember his smile and sense of humour. He was a great shipmate and it was a pleasure and a honour to have sailed with him. Your watch is over and the turnover correct. Rest in peace knowing that you did your duty. Farewell Chuck.

My sincere condolences to you and your family. I had the opportunity to work with Chuck when we sailed on board HMCS Athabaskan in the 90’s. He was the senior cook and I was the senior steward. We worked closely together when we hosted all sorts of official functions when we would pull into foreign ports. Chuck was one of the most knowledgeable cooks that I have sailed with. From my recollection, he and his cooks would compete with foreign navies displaying their skills as chefs and they would put on some very impressive displays that I had the opportunity to witness. That was Chuck. Rest In Peace sailor. Fair winds and following seas.
Very respectfully

Chuck I miss you my Friend we spent 1000's of hours together Hunting and Fishing. My Beagles thought you were the best and you were. I will always think of you cooking our lunch on the tailgate of truck and one time with a ladle in one hand stiring the pot stew you had made the other with that trusty .410 shooting a rabbit. It was so funny. You were "The Slayer" one of the best shoots I have ever known. Your telling me about all of Reality Shows that you liked. I didn't have to watch them just listen. Then there was our little drinks of Rum after a hunt. I could go on and on. I miss you so much, your fight long long fight is over.
Thanks for all of the Great memories
Your Friend will join upstairs for another hunt
Earle

When you are a 18 year old kid in the navy, you run into a lot of senior rates that can be jerks.
I was VERY fortunate that my first ship, HMCS Nipigon, I had some awesome bosses and mentors. A galley on that type of ship had one chief cook (PO1), then one Galley Manager (PO2), two Master Seaman (Master Corporals in this case) and 4 junior cooks Leading Seaman/Corporal and below. Somehow Nipigon had all 4 junior cooks that came out of school within a few months and we were all learning pretty much everything, and that had to suck for the them, but they taught us always with a smile and a helping hand, working the line with us. Fast to tell us when we did well and just as fast to help us make it right when we didn't.
I learned of Chuck's passing today. He was the P2 cook
To my boss 34 years ago, thank you, rest, we have the watch.

You were there for our daughter Natalie when she got her cancer diagnosis. She left for heaven a few days ahead of you and I’m sure being the care giver she was that she is now showing you the ropes. Rest easy Charlie may you enjoy your many hours of undisturbed fishing. Shelley

We fished together, quite a lot. He always acted like catching a fish was just ok but his eyes lit up when he hooked one. He loved the water
